Yes, we made it

Image
1200 km cycling. From Seattle to San Francisco (we skipped the cycling from Lincoln City to Eureka by a U-Haul truck). The Golden Gate Bridge was in total mist. Although all other days were completely sunny around our arrival. But it was very authentic this way. It is a lovely thing to arrive at San Francisco on a bike: a real paradise for cyclists. (except for the hills of course)

Rest day near San Francisco

We are almost there!!! We just made a stop at Mill Valley, because we wanted to visit Greengulch Zen Center. It was nice. And we are at a very nice warmshower host here. Well actually the warmshower is more zen than the zen center. The Greengulch was too much profit oriented for us. Well the "in rome do as the roman do"  proverb is very true, so in USA the zen is expensive. We could't afford to sleep there, but we enjoyed the place and the lecture. Unfortunately we missed the Zen meditation which begins at 8 every Sunday. If you nearby, it is worth visiting. Here are some zen moments for you to enjoy:-)

California coast, Highway 1

This part is really quiet. The traffic is moderate, but the road is narrow. We are having fun with 30-70 km maximum. Wondering in little towns, enjoying the amazing views of the ocean. We have been sleeping in state parks, but today we choose a nice inn at Bodega bay. We needed bed, laundry, hair wash and some more rest. Though we enjoy the state parks very much here. We cook our dinner and have a bottle of Californian vine every night.

Avenue of Giants

Bicycling on the Avenue of Giants is on the bucket list. Amazing. The traffic was low, so the  narrow road was not an issue. Wonderful forest. As you enter you feel very relaxed immediately. Very thick air and quietness has its affects.  It was sooo very quiet at night, when I woke up in the middle of the night. No noise at all. I have never experienced such stillness before. "Be still and know that I am."

Lincoln city to Eureka by car

We rented a U-haul truck, little bit big for our purposes, but still this was the smallest solution. Welcome to USA. Now we are going from Lincoln city to Eureka, CA by car. It is a nice experience too, more relaxed, but we wouldn't give up cycling for a longer time. It is good that we did it, because there was some really narrow road on the way with lots of hills. We enjoyed the coast on a more relaxed way. No worries as the Americans say. Though we enjoy bicycling more, but we have to admit, that here in the US everything is fitted for cars,so we had to try it. We spent a day in the Redwoods......wow that is amazing. There is so much energy in that forest. I am absolutely thrilled. Tomorrow we start the bike tour again, and luckily we will spend the night in the forest again. Can't wait to see you again dear woods!!!!!

Dark side of the road

So here it is all our bad experiences so far: In the state parks of Oregon the hiker/biker camp side is too separated. It is kind of  'let's put these crazy guys far away from the lazy Americans who still prefer to ride a big cars....and it's no problem that we are getting too fat'. Come on.... there is still too many fat people in the US! It is high time to ride the bike. It must be the new fashion! America needs a little shake up from being too comfortable. Too much attachment here to cars. Can you tell me why? There is too much traffic on 101 for a relaxed riding. That is why we plan to skip a part of the road by car so that we can spend more time off the road. More soon...

Report from Oregon

The Pacific Ocean is really amazing here. Wild and unspoiled. Not like touristic places. I like that. 'Breath taking' is the best word.
